A tiny Montana Sapphire with a world of detail inside.

I cut this natural Montana Sapphire in my Portal cut style, creating a smooth polished lens over the center of the stone while faceting around its irregular perimeter. The idea is to let you look into the sapphire rather than cutting away all of the natural character that made me interested in it in the first place.

This little stone has a beautiful soft green-blue color with natural inclusions and subtle shifts in appearance as the light moves through it.

After cutting the sapphire, I designed the setting specifically around its shape. An organic lattice of solid 14k yellow gold surrounds the stone, giving a very small pendant an unusual amount of texture and detail.

Each stone gets a say in what I do. This one wanted to stay small.

The finished pendant measures only approximately 18mm x 12mm, making it a delicate piece despite all of the detail visible up close.
